A Change Of Location

Next week sees the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Rat, and with it millions of Chinese will celebrating with their families. The rat symbolises wealth and prosperity to the Chinese, and I’m hoping this is a good sign as by the end of the month I will be moving to London to restart Life 2.0.

My feelings about this are mixed. In many respects I’m looking forward to having access to all the modern goodness that I’m used to, but in others I’m expecting severe culture-shock as I rejoin the familiar rat-race (pun intended). Like many Chinese at this time of the year I shall be catching up with family (although hopefully not hampered by extreme weather conditions). Following that I’ll be faced with the rather more difficult prospect of finding employment and a place to live.

Seeing as the internet is ideally built for self-promotion I thought I may as well mention that if anyone happens to be in the position of needing a full-time London-based developer then please do get in touch. There’s some more details about my skills here, and it should be noted that I can do other things besides PHP/WordPress. Pimp-mode over.

  3. Hi John,
I trust your relocation to London was a good one.

Today I ran into a snag and perhaps you can help. I added Advanced Permalinks plugin to my FindHotForex blog but then deleted the folder (without de-activating the plugin) and replaced it with the Redirection plugin.

Then I noticed that I cannot login through the usual WordPress method so I have fiddled with various failed solutions (including re-upload and activate both deleted plugins, one at a time and both together) but so far no success.

The only way I can login is via the [e] edit link on posts. What will happen when I close this browser and have to login normally again, I have no idea.

Evidently the using or deleting of one of your plugins has triggered this unusual situation. Got any ideas, John?

Has either plugin re-written some page that I now need to overwrite with the original?

    TIA

    Gary

    1. Try re-saving your permalink options, Gary. Other than that, with the plugin disabled there’s nothing it can do to affect your site.

  4. Hi, John! How are you?

I’m here to publicly thank you for developing and releasing the WordPress plug-in “Search Unleashed”, which I’m currently using at my new project: ZapShows รขโ‚ฌโ€œ http://www.zapshows.com

I’ve written an open letter so you can be sure I’m really grateful for your help. You can read it at the WP Forum: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/194623

Feel free to spread the word and to tell me your thoughts about the project.

Take care and keep up the good work.

    Best regards,

PS: when you have some free time can we talk about that customization we’ve discussed via e-mail, a while ago?
