Many people have contacted me to say that Redirection is broken with the latest versions of WordPress, outputting this message:
PHP Warning: Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare()
I’ve known about this for a long while, it’s a very easy fix, and in fact it’s been fixed for a long while – Redirection 2.3.2 has been available inย SVNย for many months. However, it was accompanied by some other structural changes in the plugin that may have actually, for real, broken things and so I’ve held off releasing it as a general update.
In the intervening time I’ve had my hands busy with other things, but have finally finished the release for public consumption, and the message is no more. Hurrah!
All this to say that if you nag me long enough I’ll eventually remember to do something.
For the pedants like me, it wasn’t actually broken –ย it’s a warningย – and if you were seeing this on a production website then I’d very much advise disabling error messages.
While writing this release post I noticed that the plugin is over seven years old. Seven!
Congratulations on the 7 years! My favorite plugin for as many years as that, I think!
And congrats on the other birthday too – she is adorable!
Thanks for the update! Do you have an updated changelog? It’s still showing 2.2.13. Thanks! http://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/changelog/ (as well as in the plugin update UI in wordpress)
Congrats and thanks for this plugin! I use it in almost every installation to track 404s and redirect urls from old websites.
The new version is great. I like the direct access to the 404s and the additional info inthe log entries. But I miss 2 things: the option to show more than 25 items per page and the field to select another whois service. Will you re-add these features in a future version?
Hi! I’m not sure how to download it from the SVG link. I really love this plugin and I need it for a Blogger to WP migration I’m currently working on. I used another one and I don’t like that it won’t give me the # of times your plugin has redirected links.
Please let me know how to download from that link?
Congrats on your little girl! She’s beautiful ๐
First, congrats on 7 years AND your new bundle of joy! She;s divine.
Second, after reading the other comments, I realize I must be a twit. I’ve used and enjoyed your Redirection plugin for almost two (2) years now — thank you! — and was looking forward to using for it for another site that I own.
When I couldn’t find the plugin in the WP repository, I found this post, but I’m confused by your “Redirection 2.3.2 has been available in SVN for many months” comment.
What am I supposed to download on that page [ http://svn.wp-plugins.org/redirection/trunk/ ]? I was expecting to see a zip file, but apparently, I need to take some other action.
Could you break it down for me, please? What, exactly, do I download or how do I update the Redirection plugin?
Sorry, if I’m not ‘getting it’. Thanks,
–Debbie
Thanks for the update and
Congratulations on your 7th year, hoping to see great updates ahead
I have a slight issue which I’m not sure how to fix. I have set over a hundred 301s for a client, however any of the old blog posts aren’t being redirected or 404rd.
Who do I ask for help? Why am I experiencing these problems?
HI I have a problem with the Redirection plugin since the new WP 3.8 I am using WooCommerce with Woothemes Whitelight Theme.
What is happening with the products in my website http://perfectbath.com if you click on any of the items in the general page eg Steam showers. The category page works ok but if you click on any of the items in the category page, instead of it going to that items page for more information it goes back to my home page. this problem is so bad that i have had to deactivate the plugin in my website. If i deactivate the plugin it works fine. And i never had any problem with the plugin working properly until WP3.8 update.
Please help fix the problem. I would be happy to pay you or give you donation to fix it. I really love your plugin.
Thanks
Any chances of getting 410 Gone for the WordPress module?
Great! I have used this plugin for five years now.
Thanks for the update .. and congrats ๐ Looking forward to Redirection plugin new features and future updates. It has made my life easier. I have started using it recently and found it super useful.
Still one of my favourite plugins.
Hi,
Congrats on the new little one. She’s adorable. They seem to always put things in proper perspective.
As for the plugin being 7 years old – I feel compelled to say this.
I love it as it existed – it’s age was of no consequence to me.
It does it’s job and does it well … so “if it ain’t broke, why fix it”?
I’m just not always sure why developers feel compelled to upgrade a plugin that doesn’t need to be updated. Make something else! ๐
I don’t believe in ‘if it aint broke why fix it’. WordPress would be sitting at version 1.5, and the internet would be a much poorer place.
Thanks for the update… I am looking forward to Redirection plugin new features and future updates. It has made my life easier because I have started using it recently and found it is useful for optimization.
I just stopped by to see what you were up to now?
I have been using your Redirection Plugin Version 2.3.14 on all of my websites.
That plugin has been an absolute lifesaver for me John, and I really came here to give you a “Thank You” publicly.
I can only wish that I will learn even half of what you have probably already forgotten! ๐ I mean that in the most respectful way.
Thanks again John
