Hi everyone,

I am running

wordpress: 2.9.2
Drain Hole 2.2.8

I had the same issue as most of you, I couldn't create a Drain Hole so I just followed the instructions by creating a folder outside of the public domain, so above my www folder (or whatever yours is called). Then I created a .htaccess file in there with the redirect info:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /home/somesite.com/www/

Which worked like a charm.

So if you have FTP access or SSh access to your server and you can create folders and files then do it that way.

It worked for me.

Good luck

Regards
James

I can't create drain holes either, and I've tried on two sites, both with Linux hosting.

I keep getting the message "The Drain Hole was not created - you must supply a unique URL (without http:// prefix) and directory"

The default url/directory don't work, I've tried changing them, still the same message.

Using Firefox, WP2.9.1 and Windows 7.

I not technical at all, have no idea how I'm meant to create htaccess files, so any coding advice needs to be very easy to follow and extremely step by step! (sorry)

I can't add a drain hole (FF3.5, Mac OS 10.6, WPMU).

I've added the required .htaccess file. I also have enabled htaccess in options screen.

My URL:
milehightechguy.com/download (although every time I try to submit the http:// is added)

My directory:
/home/myusername/sites/root/download/

The directory is outside of public_html, but I keep getting the error msg that my 'chosen directory is within a publicly accessible web directory' (even though it isn't).

Hmm, I was hoping you were on Windows as that would have explained the problem. If you can send me an admin login for the site you want to try this on then I can take a look and see if I can see what's happening.

Hello John,

Just downloaded and installed the newest version, and unfortunately it still doesn't work. This time around, it doesn't give me a completely blank page, but loads the header of the admin area all the way up to the navigation, but nothing else.

Sorry for being such a hassle, but this plugin is perfect for what I need it for (especially since it supports Google Analytics). I will definately donate if it ever gets working.

Feel free to poke around my wordpress install to see for yourself.

Thanks for the time.

You need to login to the tracker with the same username/password as here. I've had to stop allowing anonymous reports for the moment as it was being targetted by spammers and causing the site to fall over. If you can post a screenshot of your drain hole configuration, or email it to me, then I'll see if anything looks wrong.

I have the same problem. I just downloaded the plugin today and am trying it out with default options. When I try to create a drain hole, I get a 500 Server Error. In the server error log, I find the following:

Premature end of script headers: edit.php, referer: http://my-web-site.org/wp-admin/edit.php?page=drain-hole.php

[I just tried to edit my profile to change the displayed name, but the "profile" link a the top of the page leads to an error page about redirects that will never end.]
