Section Targeting is a way of embedding special tags inside HTML to give Google’s omnipresent spider a better idea of what’s important on your page. This is a really simple plugin that wraps posts and comments inside these tags, in the hope that they’ll lead to better search rankings.
It does not allow you to specify a weighting.
Just so you know, section targeting tags look like this:
<!-- google_ad_section_start --> <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
Installation is a breeze:
- Download google-ad-wrap.zip
- Unzip
- Upload to your
/wp-content/plugins/directory - Enable the plugin from your Plugins menu
You can find full details of installing a plugin on the plugin installation page.
This plugin does not guarantee to have any effect whatsoever. Consider it experimental.
Thanks for the plug-in! What are your thoughts on the weighting parameter? Do you think it has to be coded right in to the template files rather than through a plug-in?
Yes, weighting can only be applied through the template. I’m not sure how much of a difference it will make though – you’ve already told Google what are the important parts of a page, it seems redundant to then tell it which parts to ignore.
Great plugin. Thanks
Was wondering if this plugin works to target, for example, the first three blog posts? I’m looking for something that where the ads would target each of the first three posts individually.
thanks
It does all posts on a page, so if you only have 3 then that will be it.
Thank You for the plugins. Make a nice mark on my page…
umm i need a little help getting this to work on my blog think you could help me out a bit ?
Hi Kate, what’s the problem? The plugin is very simple and requires no additional configuration or special handling – it should be a simple install, activate, and you’re set. Looking at your site it seems to be functioning correctly.
as I understand it the plugin is sopose to add adds to the test of blog posts it seems not to have done that ?
The plugin does not add adverts, it adds section targeting tags (shown at the top of this page) so that Google knows what the content of a page is, as opposed to the rest of the page (navigation etc). When I look at a page on your site I can see these special tags are there. If you want to insert Google adverts you can use something like Sniplets.
Does this work in optimising for search engines? or still dont know?
Like most things to do with search engines, it may, or may not.
Gee you just might want to include this this rather vital fucking information:
<!– google_ad_section_start –>
<!– google_ad_section_end –>
in the ACTUAL download folder with the F**ING PHP file! Ever heard of using a text file and writing “read first” on it? Yes, you can actually include instructions with your plug ins in 2008!
Dick, I’m sorry you’ve got your knickers in a bit of a twist there, but what exactly are you complaining about?
Nice Idea I am going to use this plugin for experimental purpose
Thanks John, great relieve for me as I’m not proficient with HTML stuff to wrap adsense code. Keep up EXCELLENT work!
This plugin is so simple and so powerful. I’ve just done some tests and the ads I get are way more relevant now! I hope that leads to higher per click prices too. We’ll see. I just wanted to make sure to thank you for the mind-boggling’ly simple and yet ever so useful plugin!
You need something from my site? It’s yours, just ask.
Thanks for the plugin, will give it a go…but will it target the keywords I want to on that particular post?
I don’t know what you mean?

Hi John:
I can’t see the sections in my WP 3.0 (TwentyTen 1.0).
Is it compatible with 3.0?
Thanks.
There is no reason it shouldn’t be compatible – it’s a simple plugin
So where are these tags getting placed in my sites code?
I would have thought it would place them in my Single Post (single.php) file, but when I do a search for these Google tags their not there after downloading and activating this plug-in.
Stephen
They appear before and after your post content

Yes it is
Hi,
I love this plugin! However, even after updating to the version 1.1, Google Ad Wrap still shows “There is a new version of Google Ad Wrap available.”
I am using WP 3.1, perhaps you should look at it.

Thanks John, it appears that your magical plugin has aided my quest to improve the remote chances of my site earning money.
John, great plug-in! I have a question that I haven’t seen answered yet: how many times can you use the tags in one post. For example, if I wrap two different sentences in one article, will the plug-in help target the ads based on both wrappings? Or do I need to select the single most important section to wrap?
You don’t need to do anything – the plugin wraps everything for you.
Can you clarify what this plugin does? So if I install it, it will effectively go back and automatically put section targeting tags around the posts and comments of all the posts I have on my blog thus far ? (as well as those I am yet to write?)
Thanks,
~Davd
Yes, that is correct.

This is an issue with your installation of WordPress, not the plugin.
Hello, I installed the plugin but i can not find the plugin page setting in the last wordpress version. any updates ?!
Thanks
There is no settings page
