What is my configuration?

Jun 20, 2007 | Tags: | Written by Administrator

When writing to report a bug or ask a question it is useful to include details about your system configuration. There are many ways of discovering this, and a selection will be presented below.

Remember that the more information you provide, the more accurate a response can be given, and the less time I have to spend asking you for more details - a win-win situation!

What version of WordPress am I using?

This one is easy to determine. Login to your WordPress site and look at the bottom of the administration page:

WordPress version

What is my system configuration?

First you need to create a text file using a text editor (i.e. notepad). Into this file enter the following:

<?php phpinfo (); ?>

Now save the file as phpinfo.php.

The next step involves uploading this file into the public area of your website. You can use an FTP client such as FileZilla for this. Once the file has been uploaded you can then 'run' it by browsing to:

http://yoursitename.com/phpinfo.php

What appears will be a long page of information directly relating to the configuration of your website. You should either attach this to an email, or include the URL so I can look myself.
